The difference between LED lamps and SMD and COB

You must have heard the names of incandescent, LED, SMD and COB lamps. Each of these lamps has its own specifications and are suitable for certain circumstances. Obviously, the right choice requires knowing the features, applications and differences of these lamps. In this article, each of these lamps is briefly introduced firstly, and then the difference between LED lamps with SMD and COB is discussed.

An LED lamp, which stands for Light Emitting Diode, is an electronic device that produces light when an electric current is passed through it. For this reason, it is also called an lighting diode. The intensity of light produced by these lamps depends on the size and several technical characteristics of these lamps, but in general, the amount of produced light is limited. For more light, you need to put several LED bulbs together. Worth mentioning, the most important advantage of an LED lamp is its low consumption. So that a 300 watt LED lamp can fully illuminate a space of 100 meters. The reason for this low consumption is less conversion of energy into heat. In general, LED bulbs produce less heat than incandescent bulbs. Other notable features of LEDs include high resistance, high switching capability, no toxic gases and low volume.

SMD LED lamps

SMD, which stands for Surface Mounted Device, is a new technology in the field of LED lamps. The main popularity of these lamps is due to their high flexibility, which makes it easy to use in indoor and outdoor lighting systems. The advantages of these lamps over conventional LEDs include lower energy consumption, more colorful products, light quality and higher resolution, less volume, more efficiency and a wider viewing angle. The mentioned advantages have caused SMD lamps to be widely used in interior and exterior decorations, lighting and design systems.

COB lamps

The most important difference between COB and SMD lamps is how their LEDs are placed in the chip. While the SMD lamp diodes are circuit and its anode and cathode are separately placed, they are only one anode and cathode in the COB for the whole chip. This seemingly slight difference results in the production of focused and spotlight by COB lamps, which is easily recognizable by the broad and uniform SMD light. For this reason, these lamps are mostly used in small interiors, such as bathrooms, toilets, kitchens and bedrooms. Other differences between these two types of lamps include higher COB efficiency, the ability to control more colors in SMDs, lower heat in SMDs, and different radiation angles.

As mentioned earlier, each lamp has its own cons and pros. The most important point in choosing the right lamp is the customer needs and the space features in which the lamp is used. Nik Tab Noor Yazd Company with the brand of Looplight is proud to provide a high variety of different strips with the highest quality and reasonable prices. You can also refer to the products page for more information on the specification of strips mentioned.
